Supported Employment

Merriwa Industries Ltd offers Supported Employment to people with a disability, who are recipients of the Disability Support Pension ( DSP) or who have been referred to Merriwa by Centrelink. Merriwa provides support and training to people with disabilities and endeavor to assist people to achieve their individual goals and objectives. Merriwa is proud to offer employment in ‘seamless’ integrated settings

Merriwa Industries Ltd has four trading divisions located at three separate sites. The work is varied and includes : Contract Processing and Packaging with clean room facilities, shrink wrapping, and co packing of a range of customer owned products, Timber work, operating heavy and light machinery and assembly of rough sawn and fine finished products, Cakeboards of all sizes and shapes for the confectionary industry, and Defence Services where we refurbish, repair and pack products for the Australian Defence Services These services are all based in Wangaratta, Employees travel from the local area and also from Yarrawonga, Benalla and Myrtleford. Supported employees who work at Merriwa develop many skills with the variety of work offered. Training is available to increase skills and competencies including:
• office administration;
• fork-lift driving;
• timber processing and assembly;
• operation of a range of packaging machines;
• Food handling; and
• occupational health and safety

Our Businesses are quality endorsed companies and meet all requirements of the disability Service standards. We train our staff to use the latest modern equipment, knowledge and cost-effective processing methods. Merriwa Industries Ltd is committed to listening to its employees and fostering inclusion. Merriwa has an Employee Works Committee made up of supported and non supported employees who are elected representatives of their co workers. They meet on a regular basis to talk about issues facing them and how things can be improved in the workplace to better address the needs of all employees.

Referral and Application

Criteria for employment
• Must be aged 15 or over
• Be willing to work at Merriwa Industries Ltd
• Be able to get to and from work ( Merriwa is not responsible for transport).
• Must be eligible for the DSP or be referred by Centrelink.

CASUAL EMPLOYMENT
Anyone interested in non supported casual employment are asked to register with Worktrainers or Workways. They undertake basic screening tests and forward suitable applications. We then arrange to interview suitable applicants and if successful provide induction. The inducted casuals then become part of our labour pool.

OTHER EMPLOYMENT
